Why Security Cameras for Home

Security for your home or business has never been as needed as it is today. With a bad economy comes more crime in particular more theft. Ever wonder what that noise was outside but you we're afraid to go to the window? Do you need to keep an eye on a part of your property but there is no window opening facing that direction or trees blocking your view?

That's where the Uniden UDW20055 Surveillance System comes in. Since it is wireless there are no wires to run saving you time and the expense involved in wiring for cameras. The system works on the 2.4 digital FHSS (frequency-hopping spread spectrum). That is just a fancy way of saying it has zero interference from other devices in the area and is safe from hackers.

While the Uniden UDW20055 Wireless Video Surveillance System supports up to four cameras the system initially comes with two weatherproof cameras. They are capable of 640 x 480 resolution in VGA mode and have the added feature of night vision . They also include a built in microphone so you can listen for any signs of nefarious activity going on in the camera's area.

With a transmit distance of 500 feet, all of this can be viewed on the included 7 inch LCD monoitor,TV or computer. It can display up to the four supported cameras at once or one camera at a time. With the added benefit of zoom and pan you will be able to get the view you need.

You can also use the UDW20055 wireless receiver to connect to other devices such as a TV or a recording device. The receiver has AV-out ports as well as USB and includes cables for each.

The package also comes with software, PC only, which allows you to schedule and automatically record. As well it allows for motion sensing recording with the ability to adjust the sensitivity so that you are not recording leaves blowing across the driveway.

Cons

  • Some of the complaints about the unit are:
  • Claims that the unit does not transmit the advertised distance
  • The inability to use more than one camera when set to motion detect recording
  • No Windows 7 support as of the time of this writing
  • The picture quality is not good enough to aid in identification.

Really Like This Product by BG

This product arrived promptly from Amazon. It was very easy to set up. I've been using it for over a month now and have experienced no problems whatsoever. I have already purchased a third camera and plan on setting that one up shortly. The built in microphone on each camera is very sensitive to sounds & also works flawlessly. I have highly recommended this product to friends.

Uniden UDW20055 by Philip Defranco "Philly50" (NY United States)

This is a great camera system. I was a little hesitant after reading the first negative review, but I figured I had nothing to lose with Amazon's return policy. I have the cameras mounted outside and the signal is very strong with no interference (distance is about 50-75 feet through a concrete wall). My house is full of wireless devices (cordless phone and router) and I have no problems.

My only grip is that the picture is not as clear as I would like. This system is great for monitoring your property but is not really suitable for facial identification purposes (i.e. criminal activity). I use it in conjunction with my driveway alarm. As soon as my driveway alarm rings I check the Uniden Monitor instead of getting up and rushing to the window. It is especially useful at night when you do not want to get out of bed every time you hear a noise. I live on a busy street with young hooligans and it has given me a little piece of mind.

The software is very easy to setup and use. Just load the included software and plug the monitor into your computer's USB port and your off (XP and Vista--NO Windows 7)! It has a terrific interface and it is simple to schedule it to automatically record. I purchased a little USB 500GB hard drive to record the video on. If you want to monitor your house remotely from work or when you are on vacation you can get something like PC Anywhere and leave you PC on and attached to the Uniden Monitor.

So if you are looking for a easy to use camera security system, this is the one. I have purchased many, and this is by far the best.

Conclusion

The Uniden UDW20055 Wireless Video Surveillance System is moderately priced, simple to set up and easy to use. Overall it is a great video surveillance system for a great price. You can read more reviews and purchase the Uniden UDW20055 Wireless Video Surveillance System here

Just have purchased and then 3 times replaced this security system... cameras are OK, the picture is somewhat small, as the cameras give view that gives the impression that the objects under surveillance are 3-4 x further away. It work s OK until connected to a pc. The software is a JOKE. The idea is kool... no fuss about setting program for cameras what to watch, what to record. I mean, THE IDEA. It's not how ot works in reality. The 3 sets that I replaced each other with, worked wonders of its own... never doing what it was told. Too long to explain, but in short.. the program always crashed after longer time , it never recorded continuous , as it was told, on regular basis the files (am) night time, were not possible to open, when put on motion record, it went crazy to record with no motion around... buy, to the effect of positive , it's motion detection distance if fairly great.

Now, it folks at UNIDEN could fix the software, it may turn out a great surveilance set.
